The historic and heritage-protected Penfolds Magill Estate is one of the few single vineyards in the world located within city boundaries. Penfolds Magill Estate Shiraz was developed after the vineyard was saved from being engulfed by urban development, with a single estate wine being compelling justification for the continued use of this vineyard, just 5.2 hectares of the 120 hectares which once covered an entire hillside. The winery is now home to winemaking and viticultural teams and is the venue each year for the fermentation and maturation of Grange

Despite a difficult vintage, rigorous selection of intensely flavoured grapes from mature vines in some of the finest vineyards produced a wine that exceeded vintage expectations. The 1989 Grange Hermitage is beginning to show some seriously attractive older maturation characters, developing sooner by comparison to its more robust 1988 and 1990 counterparts. 91% Shiraz 9% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Kalimna and other Barossa vineyards, as well as the McLaren Vale, it has the typical solid structure and strength of character to produce another classic Grange. Yattarna is local indigenous meaning gradually, reflecting the time spent refining the cuvee before it's inaugural vintage. Bin number 144 is derived from the total number of trials undertaken in the wine's development. The aspiration and independence of mind that the late Max Schubert brought to Penfolds winemaking philosophy inspired the winery to embark on the project of creating a white wine that would one day rival the standards of Penfolds Grange.
